Here’s a link to my full story in today’s Spokesman-Review on what happened in the House yesterday, when hours of debate failed to expand a tiny 2-cent gas tax increase bill. Said Rep. Frank Henderson, R-Post Falls, “It’s going to force a serious conversation, so we can go home, so we can satisfy the minimum needs of the department.” Lawmakers would like to finish their session, but transportation is the main issue standing in the way. Today is the 80th day of the legislative session; last year’s session ended on its 87th day, and the 2007 session ended on its 82nd day.

Nonini seemed overly personally involved in that debate. I wonder what it is that makes it so important to him.

Looks like we’re in for another 2003 all over again - what, 118 days or something like that?
What drives me insane is that this recession wasn’t new when the legislature convened - they knew the problems they faced as did the Governor. Why wasn’t there a discussion about how we were going to handle this sooner and have a gameplan before the solons hit the floors of their respective chambers?
