Eye On Boise

An odd and eventful day…

The senior Bob Geddes, who is filling in this week for his son, Senate President Pro-tem Bob Geddes, was serving in the House back in 1980, the last time one house - in that case, the Senate - tried to adjourn unilaterally. “They did go home, and I know they were madder than hops when they came back,” Geddes recalled with a chuckle. As the 107th day of the legislative session draws to a close, it’s been an odd and eventful one, with House Education Chairman Bob Nonini’s comments about teachers prompting a minority party protest to the speaker; conflicting education bills winning support at the same time; the House planning to adjourn tomorrow without the Senate; and more. 1980 was my last session in the House after 8 years serving with Rep. Bob eddes. I remember well, the reverse scenario, the Senate adjourning sine die without House concurance. The Senate always tried to lord it over the House and it was kinda cool to force them back to finish business.
