Butch Otter has just proposed a “comprehensive plan for reorganizing our education policy and governance system on the state level.” That means, he said, that the State Board of Education should no longer be involved in day-to-day operations of various education programs. “To achieve our goal, I will be proposing legislation returning the Board of Education to the policy-setting mission envisioned in the Idaho Constitution,” Otter said. “My plan also will reinforce the State Department of Education’s role as THE state agency responsible for K-12 education.” The assembled lawmakers and audience burst into applause.
