The federal economic stimulus funds coming to Idaho include $44.8
million that are up to the discretion of the governor, to be used for anything
from education to public safety to “other government services.” Here’s Otter’s recommendation
for the money, which many had been eyeing: He’d send $5 million to the state’s
drinking water revolving fund, $10 million to its clean water revolving fund,
and spend $29.9 million on “pressing needs within the state’s transportation
system.” The governor’s stimulus plan says, “Using these limited resources in
this manner will result in immediate job creation in almost every region of the
state.”
