Idaho losing LCSC Prez Dene Thomas

Dene Thomas, president of Lewis-Clark State College since 2001, is resigning effective July 1 to accept a new position as president of Ft. Lewis College in Durango, Colo. Prior to heading LCSC, Thomas was the Vice-Provost for Academic Affairs at the University of Idaho. She has also been a professor, department chair and dean. AGIDIUS ACCEPTS THOMAS’ RESIGNATION

(Moscow). Paul C. Agidius, President of the Idaho State Board of Education today confirmed he has received and accepted a letter of resignation from Lewis Clark State College President Dr. Dene K. Thomas.

President Thomas indicates that she has been offered and accepted an offer to become president of Ft. Lewis College in Durango Colorado effective July 1, 2010.

“We’re thrilled for Dene,” said President Agidius. “Dene has done tremendous work in leading and guiding Lewis Clark through some very challenging times in our state. Her contributions to the institution and to higher education in Idaho will be felt for generations.””We wish her the very best in this next chapter of her life. We hate to see her go but we never want to stand in the way of someone who has an opportunity they believe will better themselves and their career.”

Agidius added that the work to name a successor to Thomas will begin immediately. “President Thomas has set the bar very high,” said Agidius. “However, I am confident we will find the very best person to lead this institution into the next decade and beyond.”

Thomas was named President of Lewis Clark State College by the Idaho State Board of Education in July 2001, making her the longest serving current president of Idaho’s public 4-year colleges/universities. Prior to her tenure as president, Thomas was the Vice-Provost for Academic Affairs at the University of Idaho. She has also been a teaching faculty, department chair and dean.

The Idaho State Board of Education will meet, Monday, April 5, 2010 at 8:30am, MDT to set fees/tuition for the 2010/2011 academic year. The meeting, which is open to the public, will be held at the Idaho State Capitol, House & Senate Auditorium (WW02 Garden Level).
