Urban renewal critics head to rarely-convened House panel, bypass Rev & Tax

The House Local Government Committee, chaired by Rep. Lenore Hardy Barrett, R-Challis, rarely meets. But it's meeting today at 1:30 to consider introducing seven bills aimed at slashing into the authority of urban renewal agencies across the state. House Majority Leader Mike Moyle, R-Star, has two proposed bills; those with one each are Reps. Bob Nonini, R-Coeur d'Alene; Kathy Sims, R-Coeur d'Alene; Cliff Bayer, R-Boise; Phil Hart, R-Athol; and Robert Schaefer, R-Nampa.

Long hearings last year in the House Revenue & Taxation Committee didn't lead to any of the bills passing; this year, the backers are bypassing that panel and heading to Barrett's committee instead.
