House passes guns-on-campus bill, 41-28

The House has voted 41-28 in favor of HB 222, the bill to prevent Idaho's colleges and universities from regulating or banning guns on campus other than in undergraduate residence halls. The measure now moves to the Senate.

Wonder how many of the legislators supporting guns on campus — thus ignoring campus safety pleas from Idaho’s informed college and university leaders and law enforcement professionals — will continue to expect free tickets to basketball games, NCAA tourneys, football games, concerts, etc. They have upped the violence ante significantly on campuses, insulted law enforcement, safety experts and college administrators yet will probably expect those same administrators to host them with free events. Arrogance and entitlement rolled into a nice little legislative mindset.

This legislation just turns society back to the gun touting shoot out days of the 1800s and early 1900s. Talk about turn the clock back. Shoot’em outs back in our society….

“thus ignoring campus safety pleas from Idaho’s informed college and university leaders and law enforcement professionals ”

You confuse political correctness and liberal orthodoxy with ‘informed’…Law enforcement ‘professionals’ are seldom the police on the street in these issue but are almost always the political leadership of the dept who’s opinions are those of their elected masters, normally not of the right.

As no law loosening these gun control has ever resulted in anything but a drop in violent crime, I have to put the rest of the comments aside as being more propaganda than fact.

Words of wisdom to live by from a transplant from Maine. Thanks Jim. We have JimV from Maine, Vito Barbereri (sp) from California telling us how to live now. At least Jim served in military (Navy). Polish up that snubby Jim…ya never know where the Taliban will show up.

So the legislators want to tell the campus administrators how to run their universities while they themselves cry foul when the feds try to tell them how to best administer health care. Hypocrisy at its best.

    What’s next? Guns in bars?!

    “We have JimV from Maine”

Ah Lisa, you do realize this is a classic error in logic, the Genetic fallacy: attempts to prove a contention false or unsound by condemning its source or genesis. You do not provide an argument that counters my view, just discount it because I did not have the cosmic luck to be born here. You might note that I chose Idaho.

I am reminded of an ad I saw in Look Magazine years ago. It showed the requisite lovely model smoking a cigarette with the caption: “Sore throat? Smoke menthol cigarettes!” Clearly we’re just not firing enough bullets here, folks.

By the bye, are the legislators who are pushing this idea planning to amend the bill to allow armed citizens in the public galleries above the Senate and House Chambers? Surely that will make them feel safer….
