9th Circuit: ‘Raising children is hard,’ marriage helps for all types of parents

Here’s a link to my full story at spokesman.com on today’s 9th Circuit decision rejecting Idaho’s appeal and striking down the state’s ban on same-sex marriage. The appeals court overturned both Idaho’s and Nevada’s bans on equal-protection grounds, finding them unconstitutional – and rejected Idaho’s main argument, that restricting marriage to just opposite-sex couples is better for children.

“Raising children is hard,” Judge Stephen Reinhardt wrote in the unanimous ruling. “Marriage supports same-sex couples in parenting their children, just as it does opposite-sex couples.”
