A crowd including current and former federal judges, U.S. Marshals, state and federal officials and more is gathering in the Lincoln Auditorium at the Idaho State Capitol for a ceremony celebrating the 225th anniversary of the federal judiciary. The event marks the signing and passage of the Judiciary Act of 1789, which established the federal judiciary and the United States Marshal.

The 3 p.m. ceremony, which is being streamed online here, will be followed by a reception hosted by the Idaho chapter of the Federal Bar Association.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Candy Dale said, “Really this is a celebration of the essence of being of both the federal courts and the U.S. Marshal Service. We celebrate today the commitment to the rule of law and the principles of the United States Constitution that are at the very core of the Judiciary Act, and along with it the official oath of office all federal judges and all United States marshals take … to respect and honor that commitment.”
