Here’s a news item from the Associated Press: BOISE, Idaho (AP) — An Idaho House panel sided with the concerns of family advocate supporters by approving legislation expanding parental rights in state law. The House State Affairs Committee voted 13-3 Friday, objecting to the multiple attorneys who testified that the bill does not align with current Idaho and federal court rulings. Republican Rep. Ken Andrus says he felt the judiciary branch attempted to influence the Legislature by sending representatives to discourage passing the legislation. According to the legislation, Idaho law would expand to say parents and legal guardians have the fundamental right to make decisions regarding the care, custody, education and control of their children. A recent Idaho Attorney General opinion wrote that Idaho law does not recognize parental rights to direct a child's education contrary to state statute.
