Tax Working Group gathers again to examine Idaho tax policy

The Legislature’s Tax Working Group is meeting again this morning, with an agenda that includes an array of presentations, an update on the state’s general fund budget, and a half-hour discussion at the end of the meeting this afternoon, on next steps. You can see the agenda here, and listen live here.

Over the weekend, Idaho Statesman reporter Bill Dentzer assembled the data, showing that much of the information received by the panel to date doesn’t build a case for tax cuts, instead pointing to a different course focusing on investment. A sizable amount of data presented to the panel shows Idaho’s current tax structure, though complex, is actually lower and fairer than most of its neighbors, not to mention most of the states in the nation, Dentzer reported, writing, “That’s perhaps why one of the leading questions now before the panel is: Does the state tax code really need fixing?” You can read his full report here.
