BSU gets grant to establish ‘Center for Excellence’ for veteran-students

Boise State University has received a $498,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Education to establish a “Center for Excellence for Veteran Student Success.” BSU is one of 13 colleges receiving grants nationwide; it's the only one in Idaho. The three-year grant will support veteran student recruitment, retention and graduation, and will allow BSU to add a new outreach coordinator and academic/career advisor for veterans. BSU currently has an estimated 800 students who are veterans, National Guard or reserve members, or active-duty military personnel.

Chris Wuthrich, dean of students, said, “By working together with campus departments, we will help veteran students feel more connected to the Boise State community, as well as educate faculty about veterans and the challenges they face.”
