Low-income, disabled Idahoans have until April 18 to apply for ‘circuit breaker’ property tax break

Idahoans have until April 18 to apply for the “circuit breaker” property tax reduction for 2016, the state Tax Commission says; it’s a tax break for disabled, elderly and low-income Idahoans for which 27,000 homeowners qualified last year.

The reduction, which tops out at $1,320, is available to homeowners with no more than $29,470 in total 2015 income, who also fit into one of these categories: Age 65 or older; blind; widow(er) of any age; former prisoner of war or hostage; or disabled. “If you think you might be eligible, don’t wait to file. We can’t accept applications after the deadline,” said Pam Waters, who oversees the program for the state Tax Commission.

Applications are available online here or from local county assessor’s offices.
