Idaho cheesemaker cleans up at Wisconsin competition

Take that, Wisconsin! Glanbia Cheese reports today that together with partner Southwest Cheese, the cheesemaker “swept the boards” at the 2016 World Championship Cheese Contest in Wisconsin last week, bringing home a record-breaking 18 medals, including six gold, eight silver and four bronze.

That includes a gold medal in Monterey Jack & Walnuts; a silver in Ghost Pepper Jack; and a bronze in Mild Cheddar, among many others.

“We are proud of sweeping the Fresh Asiago category and excelling in the pepper cheese category,” said Wilf Costello, chief commercial officer for Glanbia. “I’m particularly proud that the efforts of our employees, and the dairy farms that supply us with superior quality milk, are recognized on a global stage.”

Glanbia is a global company based in Kilkenny, Ireland with operations in 34 countries; Glanbia Foods USA is headquartered in Twin Falls, Idaho. It is the world’s largest producer of American-style cheddar cheese, which comes in plastic-wrapped blocks, not individual slices. Glanbia also operates a “Cheese Innovation Center” in Twin Falls, with the slogan, “Where ideas, market intelligence and science meet.”
