Rep. Julie VanOrden to chair House Education Committee
Rep. Julie VanOrden, R-Pingree, is the new chair of the House Education Committee. That’s the first word on House committee assignments or chairmanships; both VanOrden and House Assistant Majority Leader Brent Crane, R-Nampa, confirmed it. VanOrden succeeds Rep. Reed DeMordaunt, R-Eagle, who didn’t seek re-election; she previously was the education vice-chair.
“I think we have all the chairmanships decided,” said Crane, though they’ve not yet been announced or released. “That’s taken the bulk of the morning.”
Most members of the House, and some senators too, are having lunch now in the Capitol dining room. House members have been asked to be back on the floor at 1; Senate members at 2.
