Bill would add terrorism, human trafficking to crimes that mean no future gun rights

The Idaho Sheriffs Association wants the state to add eight felony crimes to the list of those that disqualify an ex-con from having gun rights restored after serving a sentence, a list that already includes 37 felony crimes. The eight: Terrorism, arson, theft by extortion, human trafficking, felony rioting, hijacking, racketeering, and supplying firearms to a criminal gang.

“Who could argue against that?” asked Mike Kane, lobbyist for the Sheriffs Association. Already on the list in Idaho law are crimes including murder, rape, kidnapping, aggravated assault, burglary, intimidating a witness, robbery, cannibalism, felony drug trafficking, and more.

Kane brought the proposal to the Senate Judiciary Committee today, which quickly agreed to introduce the measure, clearing the way for a hearing.
