Mountain Home Reservoir to open for fish salvage
Mountain Home Reservoir in Elmore County is expected to be dry by late July, Idaho Fish & Game announced today, so they’re opening it up to public fish salvage starting Saturday, July 2. That means no bag, possession or size limits. And with the exception of firearms, explosives, chemicals and electricity, anglers who have a valid Idaho fishing license can take fish by any method, including nets.
Idaho Fish & Game stocked the reservoir with about 6,000 catchable-size trout this spring. Now, low runoff and high demand for water are draining the reservoir. “We'd like to encourage licensed anglers to take advantage of the salvage opportunity rather than see these fish go to waste,” said Jeff Dillon, state fisheries manager.
