One more try fails, GOP platform changes won’t be considered

Now there’s been a new motion to suspend the rules and take up the platform committee’s proposals, but only after new copies are printed of the updated proposals. “If you say yes, then you would like us to print several hundred copies,” state GOP Chairman Steve Yates said. That would mean the convention likely wouldn’t get to the platform changes until after lunch, he noted. “If you are voting no, you are saying you do not wish to suspend the rules.” He said earlier that copies of the updated report were distributed to every delegation, but some took more than their share and there are none left; the report also was emailed to delegates, but the emailed version didn’t have all the updates.

A vote was taken by raising of hands. Again, the nearly 500 delegates were closely divided. “There are well over one-third of hands raised, in the opinion of the chair,” Yates said. “The motion fails.”
