Memorial service, military honors set for retired Idaho Guard adjutant general Jack Kane

A memorial service will be held tomorrow for Maj. Gen. (retired) John F. Kane, former adjutant general of the Idaho National Guard, who died last week at the age of 71. Kane, who first enlisted in the Idaho National Guard in 1962, served in an array of top posts over his 43-year career; he was adjutant general from 1995 to 2005, when he retired. He earned a business degree from Boise State in 1970.

Gov. Butch Otter said in a statement, “Jack and I have been great friends since we were boys growing up here in the valley.  I’ve never known a better man or one I trusted more.  General Kane was admired for his toughness, his professionalism and his military bearing.  But most of all I valued Jack’s steadfast friendship and wise counsel.”

Kane is survived by his wife Sandra; sons Scott and Matt; and two grandsons, Preston and Liam Kane.

The memorial service on Tuesday will be at noon at Cloverdale Funeral Home, 1200 N. Cloverdale Road; following the service, Kane will be laid to rest with full military honors at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery at 3 p.m.
