New version of permitless concealed-carry gun bill introduced

Sen. Curt McKenzie, R-Nampa, has introduced a new version of his legislation to allow Idahoans to carry concealed guns without a permit, with several changes. McKenzie said he and other members of the Senate State Affairs Committee have been deluged with email complaining about an inadvertent change the bill would have made, preventing people between the ages of 18 and 21 from carrying concealed weapons without a permit outside city limits when current law allows that. The new draft removes that change. It also makes a change at the request of the Idaho Sheriffs Association to ensure that felons aren’t authorized to carry concealed guns outside cities, and changes the format of the bill to make it more clear just which parts of current law are being changed.

The new version of the bill was introduced by the committee this morning; McKenzie said he’s planning a hearing on March 14.
