Final school appropriations bring school budget increase to 7.4%

With the approval of two additional “trailer” appropriation bills - $100,000 for HB 570, the Local Innovation School Act, and $600,000 for HB 571, which moves $600,000 for reviewing teacher career ladder evaluations from the state Department of Education to the state Board of Education, the total amount JFAC has now allocated to the public schools budget for next year comes to $1,584,669,400 in state general funds, $1.927 billion in total funds. That’s an increase of 7.4 percent over this year in state general funds, matching last year’s general-fund percentage increase, and an increase of 6.2 percent in total funds.

With that, JFAC has now adjourned at the call of the chair, but Co-Chair Shawn Keough, R-Sandpoint, said, “The plan is to have our committee get back together on Tuesday.”
