State Treasurer Ron Crane’s spending, investment decisions again raise questions

A debt-financing deal worth a half-billion dollars appears to cost Idaho hundreds of thousands more in interest and fees than similar offerings by other states, the Idaho Statesman reports, and a governor-appointed investment adviser wants a state board to review it. Idaho state Treasurer Ron Crane, who has faced several prior critical assessments of his spending and investment decisions with Idaho’s state funds, dismissed the financial expert’s concerns as “erroneous” and said he has no plans to bring them before the state investment oversight board, which he chairs.

Statesman reporter Bill Dentzer’s full report is online here. Crane is in the third year of his fifth four-year term; he announced last year that he won’t seek re-election next year.
