Bedke: ‘We’ll put the wheels back on, and we’ll finish’

Pressed by reporters about the dysfunction in the House GOP caucus this year, House Speaker Scott Bedke said the House functions, in part, on unanimous consent. “If we have unanimous consent, we’ll proceed. If we don’t, then we’ll see what we absolutely have got to have to do our responsibilities.” That could include taking up required appropriation bills and reading them in full, he said. But, he said, “I think it’d be a mistake.”

“You’ve got to cowboy up here, and that means you’ve got to do what it takes to do the job,” Bedke said. “I’ll have a chairmen’s meeting in the morning. We’ll put the wheels back on, and we’ll finish. I still feel strongly that we can’t leave without doing something on the roads issue.”
