Today is the day when the Idaho House and Senate commemorate their past members who died in the past year; there are quite a few. In the House, this year’s ceremony memorializes former Reps. John Tim Brennan, who served one term in the 1950s; Roger Lewis Guernsey, who served in 1979-80; Gary Ingram, who served from 1973 to 1980 and was the author of the Idaho Open Meeting Law; Edward Gerrard Jenkins, who served from 1969 to 1972; Wayne Earl Kendell, who served from 1997 to 2002; Dr. Bert W. Marley, who served in 1979-80; and Mike P. Mitchell, who served from 1969 to 1970 and from 2003 to 2006.

In the Senate, this year’s honorees are the late former Sens. Larry D. Anderson; John C. Andreason, whose memorial former Sen. Bart Davis returned to the Senate chamber to help deliver; Cecil D. Andrus, who also went on to serve as both U.S. Secretary of the Interior and Idaho’s longest-serving governor, and to whose memorial Davis also added; the senior Marley, who served in both houses; Orval H. Hansen, who also served in Congress, and of whom Davis also spoke; and Michael P. Mitchell.

The ceremonies include music and personal tributes from current lawmakers; family members  are attending.
