Idaho’s state Land Board today voted to appoint State Forester David Groeschl as acting director of the Idaho Department of Lands, after former Director Tom Schultz left the post to become vice president of government affairs and community outreach for Idaho Forest Group.

Groeschl has been state forester since 2011 and the department’s deputy director since 2016. He previously held similar positions in Montana and has worked in forestry in both the public and private sectors; he holds a bachelor’s degree in forest management from the University of Wisconsin and a master’s degree in forestry for Virginia Tech.

The Land Board also directed the department to begin soliciting applications for a permanent director.
