Labrador on govt shutdown over Dems’ demand to address ‘dreamers’: ‘Shameful political stunt’

Idaho 1st District GOP Rep. Raul Labrador, who is running for governor, issued this statement over the weekend on the government shutdown:

“The Democrats are shutting down the government in order to give amnesty to illegal aliens. They are denying vital government services that American citizens paid for in order to benefit those who have no legal right to live here. This is a shameful political stunt, and the Democrats are delusional if they think it will politically benefit them. We need Democrats to work with us in good faith to reopen the government.”

Senate Democrats have been demanding an immigration bill that addresses “dreamers,” young people brought illegally to the country as babies or young children, who had been protected under the Obama Administration’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, which President Trump is moving to end. Republicans want a short-term spending bill to keep the government open for a few more weeks that doesn’t include immigration; one already had passed the House.
