A meteor streaks towards the horizon during the annual Persied shower in Florida in August 2008. Perseid meteors are bits of debris left by the comet Swift-Tuttle which burn up in the Earth's atmosphere, and can be seen during clear skies in August, all around North America.

Eunice Kennedy Shriver, 88

President John F. Kennedy's sister Eunice Kennedy Shriver, who carried on the family's public service tradition by founding the Special Olympics and championing the rights of the mentally disabled, died early Tuesday surrounded by relatives at a Hyannis hospital.
