Good afternoon, Netizens…
Eric John Rick Vogel, a former radio announcer in Libby, Montana, will not be broadcasting any more shows for awhile. That’s because he is doing 40 years at the Montana State Prison for sexual assaulting five out of his seven children. I’ve been following this case closely as it wove its way through Lincoln County Courts in Libby, thanks in part to Steve Thompson’s insistence.
For the record, here is his prison picture:

Thank you, Dave…
Does the man pictured above look familiar to anyone? When you were a child, did this man, or any man for that matter force you to perform certain sexual acts that you didn't want to participate in?
If the answer is yes? Please, don't wait, for your good and his, pick up the telephone and call 911.
Mr. Vogel (62) attended high school in Ritzville, WA. He attended college and worked professionally in Western Washington and Oregon. Mr. Vogel was raised in a catholic elementary school in Orange County, CA. and it's possible that he himself could of been sexually abused as a child.
The Vogel family continues to reside in Libby, MT. I'm making a personal plea that nobody reading this story make any effort to contact the family or members of the Libby community about this crime.
I will further request that members of the Ritzville, Seattle and Portland media distribute this information widely. If there are additional victims these people need to know that this criminal is serving a 40 year sentence at Montana State Prison.
Thanks again Dave and, Thank you, Spokesman.com for allowing this story to break on this blog.

Good morning Steve…
Unfortunately the prison booking picture of Rick Vogel I snagged adds to the justice his sentence will lend him. His hair wet, fresh from the prison showers, with a bar of soap in his hand, I can imagine the hellish existence his life is going to lead.
As I believe you noted, a 40-year prison sentence amounts to life sentence, in his case, and by now everyone on his prison block will have learned the hideous crimes he committed. Prison inmates tend to not like those who sexually abuse children.
What is equally tragic is that none of what passes for the news media in Libby, Montana bothered to cover either his trial, conviction or his sentencing.

This just makes me gag. His own children!!!!! 40 years is NOT enough. I hope you get hits on this. Actually, gee - I hope not. I hate to think there were others.
It just occurs to me that if he molested his own children, then wouldn't he have molested his own children's friends? I mean, it's like a bowl of candy to some creep like this.

I repeat yet again “The Terrorists you need to be really afraid of live next door to you and spend time with your children”… .380 therapy is all that really stops these guys… one of my early college years girl friends was a woman who had been “sold” to friends of his for three years.. she committed suicide four years later.. john

Hi Jeanie,
Upon first word of his arrest, all of his friends gagged, myself included. According to court documents, the acts against his children began in 1995 and continued until his wife found out in 2006/2007.
Vogel was originally charged with 15 felony counts. Five counts of sexual intercourse and five counts of incest were dropped in a plea agreement that kept the children from having to suffer through a trial. The children consisted of both boys and girls.
As for media coverage in Libby? I can fully understand why the local news outlets chose to not elaborate beyond the initial arrest. I myself have struggled with the issue of bringing this out in the open.

This guy is vile, obviously, and should serve hard time, perhaps life without parole, but should we really be cheering an extra-judicial punishment system where he gets the shiv from fellow inmates, also criminals?
Is THAT justice and proper punishment? Do we believe in rule of law, or rule of the criminal mob? A lynching? Really?
You have met the enemy and he is you.

Ah yes….. Another of the compulsively misinformed and perpetually confused is heard from.
Tell me, is there no such thing as a bad cowboy, only a misunderstood one?

Who are you insulting with your worthless commentary, martin_hibbs?
You are suggesting taking justice into one own's (or a mob's) hands.
That's anarchy.
Is it justice when grunts on the ground in 'Nam fragged their clueless LT who put them in harm's way because of LT's bad judgment and poor leadership?
