Isn’t she lovely????

Good morning, Netizens…

I’m flying beneath the radar today, actually running to catch up with whatever I was supposed to be doing, and upon reading several comments about Cathy McMorris-Rogers in another message thread, and since one of my anonymous contributors sent me this picture, I thought it fitting and proper to post it.

Ah, Mz. McMorris as you never wanted to see her…

    Good afternoon, Cindy H. …

Good catch, Cindy. I have corrected the error(s) of my ways and had I the means, I would immediately put you to work as the proofreader for Community Comment. 8-)

Just checking in and wondering, Dave, are you going to post an unflattering picture of a male politician? Does this have to do with the Newsweek Palin photo that she posed for and then cried foul when people actually saw it?

I am not a fan of Cathy McMorris Rodgers, but I don't get the point. That the looks of female politicians somehow figure into the greater scheme of things? And Dave, you're one of my favorite feminists!

It is wrong, and I admit it. I often look at the clothes, the hair, the vehicle and say to myself, “There's a republican woman”. Well, “woman” isn't what I really say. Usually I'm right. All too often the republicans think all they have to do is put lipstick on that pit bull and they have a winner. No real consideration of ability, no real grasp of current world affairs. McMorris is classic in a rep who doesn't rep. I've contacted her office enough I think I'm now on a do not answer list. No matter what the issue all McMorris or her people would say comes line-by-line out of the republican play book. I'm pretty darn tired of taxation without representation.

Really, I have no interest in looking at some male republican puppet in an unflattering picture, they are unflattering enough as it is, but I truly love when these “sweet hearts” of the republican party are caught with their age showing and not quite so put together.

Arliacne, after many attempts, I received an email from Ms. McMorris Rodgers office after I had asked if she was a birther. The email basically said, no, not a birther.

It was just a couple of days later that I saw her bleating the Republican birther talking points on TV.

Sarah Palin posed for a runner’s magazine sometime in the past. Unsurprisingly, at least to most; she wore RUNNING ATTIRE! She was probably selected for that “shoot” to show that even 40ish women who have had five children and who live an active, healthy life; can still look fit, vibrant and attractive … maybe even sexy.

Newsweek did not take a photo of Dearest Sarah, nor did they use one of the hundreds of appropriate “file” photos they have access to; instead, they “stole” a picture of her in shorts!

But Sarah took it all in stride; she knows this was probably the “work” of some dumpy, frumpy and jealous woman who tried vainly to diminish her.

Do these cowardly media people have no shame?

And how is it, that someone can correctly make the call, that the photo of McMorris was a display of demeaning and sexist double-standard of a female politician; but then fail to see that the picture of Dearest Sarah was an even more cynical - but typical - attempt to diminish her … I will never understand.

Or perhaps I understand all too well.

    Good evening, fairest Diana…

To answer your question, I posted several highly-controversial pictures of George W. Bush back when we all first began Community Comment, and I was accused of being a “lackey” for the Democrats. For what it is worth, I would have run this picture, even if Cathy McMorris were a male or a democrat. I have made several attempts to contact her office(s) to no avail, and when a politician chooses to ignore me, I generally grab the first opportunity to score a point or two for the home team.

Also, you are my favorite feminist, because you do see BOTH sides of the sexual dividing line, and aren't afraid to “call em as you see them.”

However, having experienced first-hand Cathy McMorris totally refusing to answer some simple questions that only she could answer, or even to acknowledge the receipt of my letter(s), I freely and openly admit a certain amount of bias. In this case, however, it is against politicians who do not serve their more lowly constituents, not particularly based upon race, sexual gender or any other criteria.

Sans any context about your problems with McMorris-Rogers, or a link to other message thread to see what was going on, I fail to see why posting this unflattering picture of her was appropriate.

I can't stand her politics for the most part, and her fundie husband is a real piece of work, having worked for a Mega Church in San Diego that considers Mormons to be cultists and even has a program to “convert them”, still without your context provided much later, Dave, I simply shook my head. What?

I'm going to agree with the majority here, Dave. What does an unflattering photo have to do with anything?

How many flattering photos have you ever seen of Winston Churchill? Of Abraham Lincoln? Does that mean either of them was inept? Untrustworthy?

Richard wrote: “But Sarah took it all in stride; she knows this was probably the “work” of some dumpy, frumpy and jealous woman who tried vainly to diminish her”

Aside from the sexist description of the “women who tried vainly to diminsh her”, Sarah does a great job of diminishing herself. No one else needed.

BTW, many thanks to Dave, Gus and Jeff Grey for their always intelligent and thoughtful posts. I have learned much from all of you.

Diana…. andmetooyou… thanks again for the information about you armed service on that “other” blog… i do not even look at it much any more cause it is mostly run by the inmates…. ie more and more of the original posts are not directed to any particular topic… but i understand somewhat the stress /time constraints of the remaining three editor's… must be a hard job these days..

I must chime in that I too have been not responded to by Ms McMorris-Rodgers on a wide variety of important issues… her form of “christian calling” is not unlike that of the Spanish Inquisition in a Protestant garb.. ( Republican Garb).. j

I'd just like to chime in with another thought:

I'm growing so very tired of hearing arguments where the only substance is, 'The person making this argument is so obviously a [liberal/conservative/Republican/Democrat/whatever]!'

How is a person's viewpoint that important - at least with respect to the *substance* of their argument? How is calling someone 'liberal' or 'conservative' or whatever any more relevant to the actual thing they're arguing than is an unflattering photo of the person making the argument?

If a person says, 'This nation is sinking too far into debt! We simply can't afford a greater deficit right now!' - does it matter that the speaker is a 'tea-bagger' holding up some inane sign or President Obama? Both have said the same words. Do we believe one because he's 'on our side' and assume the other is a liar because 'he's one of *them*'? Do the words themselves and more importantly the intent behind them matter at all any more?

Can we infer true intent from ideology? Can we infer ideology? Can we do so with any degree of reliability for any given individual and their thoughts based on sweeping generalizations like 'liberal', 'conservative', etc, etc?

Do we judge the speaker by their deeds rather than their ideology? If so, do we judge the deeds objectively or is it another case of judging solely according to which side the actor is from - 'ours' or 'the enemy'?

J, thanks for your thoughts as always… i'll be happy to “be judged by my deeds”… any day.. ad hominem and labels are easy enough to ignore most of the time…most of the time… but i agree inferring motives or labelling me for my words adds little to the discussion… best j

it woulld be great to hear your story… of all of my life events the two years I spent living in Panama City on the economy driving back and forth through the Favela into the “Zone” were the most formative…i would likely say that is true of the four men that volunteer every morning with me as retired guys… and likely the 40 percent that come and dine with us and help us out in the kitchen would say that as well… best j…..

Tell you what, richard, until Palin or McMorris earn my respect I'll continue to search and archive any photos I can find that depict them in as derogatory a light as possible. A member of congress who won't return her constituents calls or letters and a whack job who set her greed at a book deal above her promise to perform the duties of governor garner no respect.

I'll be glad to post a link to some of them if you want a real hoot.

24th Evac? I remember that place. And the dirt and noise.

I guess that I'm in a minority here for I don't find the referenced photograph all that unflattering. Just looks to me like a fuzzy, bad snap of someone in real life, doing real life things.

Some years ago I made an offer to serve as proofreader of Dave's diatribes and was rewarded with stony silence. I do, on occasion offer my sage advice and counsel on various of his offerings, though. He claims to listen, but I know he secretly has his fingers crossed behind his back.

For those who are angered, disappointed or confused by the lack of response from various political figures allow me to point out with that dawn of the digital age they receive literally thousands of messages most of which are written by someone with an unsheathed axe to grind. Most of us fall into this category or have a history with the target of the message. These messages almost always fall into the “don't bother” category. Sad, but mostly true.

I have written many letters to Cantwell, McMorris and Lisa Brown as well as Tim Eymann.

Tim is the only one that responds with intelligent letter the other 3 will not respond and if they do it will be a 3-word sentence.

In fact Lisa brown wrote one to me I told me she was too busy to deal with my petty concerns. The petty concern as she called it was requesting someone on the federal level to look at the Otto Zehm killing.

So a mom with a special needs child who probably flys back and forth cross-continent representing her district looks a little out of sorts?

And that is somehow worthy of what? That's she's human?

Is that what we've come to in our society? Vulturing around waiting for a bad photo?

Argue the politics but, c'mon…you're better than that.

Actually, I don't even think it's a bad photo. Sure it's not glam, but that's about what I look like when I'm laying down the law to my boys.
    Sometimes ya gotta be scary.

GSLFan :That picture was taken way LONG before she punched out her progeny. It was actually taken by the Spokesman, but McMorris's tentacles spread to our Freedom of the Press and the Spokesman refuses to sell that picture on her request.

    Go figure.

McMorris's deputy director Shawn Sladich is married to Harry whom is the CEO of the Spokane Visitors Bureau. Convenient.
