Tea Party crybabies want it all???

Good morning, Netizens…

Cartoonist David Horsey set off a political bonfire this morning with this cartoon of John Boehner being derailed by a Tea Party baby. Oh, Lord, there are so many ways to read this. After all, didn't the Tea Party members all get elected by promising on their honor to never raise taxes? While I am not a Tea Party advocate, I do find it unusual, even odd, that an elected official actually keeps their campaign promises, and it appears that is what they have done.

Of course, all Tea Party members and Republican wing-nuts might spend a few quiet moments in the corner thinking about what would happen if a national default were to take place.

There are many of us out here, who have faithfully paid into our Social Insecurity funds who stand to lose everything. This, of course, does not include Medicaid payments and those on military retirement who would stand to lose everything; that is simply unacceptable.

Are the Tea Party members saying they are willing to stop all funding for these?

I not only say no, I say Hell no! Of course, your results and opinions may differ.

Brinksmanship to prevent government shutdown…

Good morning, Netizens…

According to cartoonist David Horsey, the art of hostage taking as taught by Republican U.S. House Speaker John Boehner is a good study in brinksmanship, in my opinion. Given the amount of hyperbole and grandstanding involved over the previous weeks, it would appear that David Horsey's cartoon may have hit the nail on the head; the Republican strategy appears to have worked.

However, before anyone breathes heartfelt sighs of relief, after saving federal funding for Planned Parenthood I should hasten to point out we aren't through with the federal budget by a long shot. There are still lots of sacrificial lambs awaiting delivery to the altar politic before the ink is dry on the national budget, a fact I am certain Speaker Boehner is wisely keeping beneath his collar.

In case you are wondering, why was Planned Parenthood chosen to be Boehner's hostage? Just last Friday, for example, Republican Sen. John Kyl of Arizona fired the opening salvo on Planned Parenthood when he said on the Senate floor that “if you want an abortion you go to Planned Parenthood. And that's well over 90 percent of what Planned Parenthood does.”

Get used to the deception. It just isn't so.

Despite the fact Kyl was eventually forced to rescind his statement, as despite Planned Parenthood being a truly big target to Conservative Republicans, over 90% of what Planned Parenthood does do is NOT abortions. So it stands to reason when Boehner was searching for a highly-visible hostage that he could broker into tax cuts, who else could he grab?

Once President Obama sensed that Boehner was willing to hold Planned Parenthood as his hostage, and that Republicans were, for the most part, behind the elimination of federal funding for Planned Parenthood, he had to acquiesce and cave in to the other demands to save us from government shutdown.

Of course, this is only my interpretation of the saving of our government, and perhaps your opinion(s) may differ.

House Speaker John Boehner sans socks…

Good morning, Netizens…

KXLY-TV’s Mike Gonzalez sometimes gets it right. There is an interview segment on Facebook and Youtube showing an interview between Gonzalez and John Boehner from a number of years ago. Something was missing though, like… BOEHNER’S SOCKS! So GMNW is holding a sock drive for him. Send or bring socks to 500 West Boone.

I want to see a candid picture of Boehner’s face when the socks begin arriving.

The pendulum is swinging…

Good morning, Netizens…

Whether you agree with him or not, cartoonist David Horsey has struck a nerve perhaps in this morning’s cartoon featuring Speaker John Boehner arriving on the front door of the White House to confront President Obama. The subtle touch of “Boehner’s Army” being portrayed as the Confederate Army does seem to be a bit of a stretch perhaps, but then you have only to consider some of the statements made during and since the election.

From Boehner’s own words, the first item on the agenda is to eliminate Obama’s Health Care completely. That is now something that is high on the list of things the Republicans want to change. They propose to start dismantling reforms that now keep people with pre-existing conditions from being denied health insurance, allow young people to stay on their parents’ insurance to age 26 and raise the hope of guaranteed care for 20 million folks who cannot now afford or obtain insurance. I ask you, is this forward progress?

Perhaps Horsey should have attempted to characterize some of the big insurance conglomerates and corporations in this drawing. Could it be they are celebrating with the thought of Obamacare going away? In my mind, they would seem to profit from undoing the rules of Obamacare, but nobody really is focusing on that.

Of course, it has been noted by Horsey in his comments that there has been no consensus that Obamacare is as seriously flawed as the Republican attack ads during the election tried to suggest. According to several of the polls I have read, it is nearly an even split between those in favor of Obama’s Health Care Reform and those who think it needs to be ended now. That, to my way of thinking, is not a clear consensus.

John Boehmer had better be careful where and how he steps in his new role. Once people realize what they are giving away by dumping Obamacare in the trash the pendulum may begin swinging the other way in the next election.

Of course, your results may differ.
