Tuesday Video: Fourth grade environmental activist vs. KFC

You might recall the story of Cole Rasenberger.
When he was in second grade, Cole was assigned a project to be an environmental activist. He researched environmental causes around him and found that McDonald’s was buying paper that destroyed endangered forests in his home state. It awakened his environmental passion.

Fast forward to several months ago from his research assignment. Cole traveled to Louisville, KY from Charlotte, NC to meet with corporate executives at KFC and deliver in person the over 6,000 hand drawn postcards that he had collected from youth across North Carolina, asking KFC to use more recycled paper and to stop buying paper that comes from the South’s endangered coastal forests.

Yesterday, I received an email with an update about Cole's efforts.

"A few months ago, you wrote a blog post about Cole Rasenberger and his effort to get KFC to use recycled packaging," said Care2's Sue Ann Reed. "Unfortunately, his efforts to date have not convinced KFC to change their practices."

In fact, KFC executives gave Cole and his friends vouchers to buy food at KFC. Why not double-down?

Her group has now decided to join the effort and create a petition to get signatures. Petitioners argue, "Let's stand with Cole on this issue. He and his friends are the future, and this is what they are asking of us. Since 6,000 petitions didn't induce KFC to make any changes, I suggest we send them another 10,000 or more.KFC, stop cutting North Carolina's wetland forests for your packaging and move to post-consumer recycled products."

All the company needs to do is what Cole is requesting: Use post-consumer recycled paper in their packaging. It's not that hard. I urge you to stand with Cole HERE.
