City Of Spokane adds Nissan Leaf to their fleet

The video is a littly cheesy but so what? It's good to see the city using zero emissions vehicles to reduce greenhouse gases.

Last year, the City opened a charging station located in the parking lot just to the north of City Hall with two outlets allowing several electric vehicles to charge at the same time. Now, it's great to see the City fulfill its promise on the electric fleet with a Chevy Volt expected for 2012.

To save money and resources, the City dramatically reduced its motor pool in 2010 and committed to an emphasis on alternative-fuel vehicles for the remaining motor pool vehicles. In a move that didn't receive too much attention, the motor pool was reduced from 29 vehicles to five vehicles, including three hybrids the City already owned and more hybrid additions.

The endgoal is a widespread adoption of alternative transportation and the availability of public stations that help remove "range anxiety," coupled with the addition of a zero emission fleet set an example for other municipalities for cost savings and clean energy.

I would be remiss to mention that Mayor Mary Verner continues to slide behind challenger David Condon. Do you think we will be able to look forward to further implementation of sustainability programs that help protect our environment and reduce greenhouse gas emissions under the new adminstration?
