Former Miss Universe will keynote International Women’s Day forum at WSU

WSU's International Women's Day forum will feature a keynote address on gender issues and social activism in Africa from former Miss Universe Mpule Kwelagobe.

The keynoter is scheduled for 4 p.m. March 4 in the CUB ballroom at the Washington State University main campus in Pullman.

Kwelagobe is from Botswana and in 1999 became the first African woman crowned Miss Universe. She used her notoriety to bring greater attention to the HIV/AIDS epidemic as well as gender and youth issues facing Africans. The United Nations tapped her as a goodwill ambassador and Kwelagobe has testified before the U.S. Congress while also appearing on multiple news programs.

The forum is sponsored by International Women's Day at WSU is sponsored by the Office of International ProgramsCenter for Civic Engagement,Women's Resource CenterGlobal CampusInternational Students' Council, and Office of Equity and Diversity. Members from each organization make up the International Women's Day Committee.
