Director of WSU’s Native American health sciences program receives national award

The director of Washington State University's Native American health sciences program in Spokane is the recipient of an Enduring Spirit Award from the nonprofit Native Action Network, the school announced today.

Robbie Paul, a member of the Nez Perce tribe, personally recruits Native American students to enroll in WSU's health sciences programs through the university's annual Na-ha-shnee Health Science Institute summer camp. During her tenure, 56 Native American nurses have graduated from WSU, including eight with master's degrees. The first Native American student to earn a doctor of nursing degree graduated this year.

The national Enduring Spirit Award recognizes Native American women who devote their lives to creating positive outcomes for their communities. Paul is among four recipients of the award this year.
