RV Park Review: SunLund By The Sea is worth the journey

Our Grand Tour recently spent a week exploring Vancouver Island, and the Sunshine Coast of beautiful British Columbia. One of the highlights of the trip was a stay at the SunLund By The Sea RV Park in the teeny town at the end -- or the beginning -- of Highway 101.

This forested spread nestled onto a hillside has a homey feel, from the warm greeting to the congenial sense of community around the gathering spot near the office. That's really the only place to pick up WiFi, but who needs the net when you can take a five-minute walk down a path to the stunningly beautiful harbor?

All sites are full service, 30 amp plug-ins provided, along with water, sewer and enough space for a tow vehicle. We spotted several RV rental companies represented, and heard a slew of European accents around the campground. Summer was definitely in full swing, though it was pouring rain when we arrived. Fortunately, we felt cozy inside our tiny home on wheels, and the next morning, the skies were cobalt blue.

Showers were available, though there was an extra charge, and there was a small laundry room, where books were stacked in a casual exchange program. Coffee and cocoa were available in the office for $2, and there was a small, but sweet selection of local gifts for sale.

Also for sale, the RV park! For $1.3 million, Canadian, this sprawling spread can be yours. That fact stirred up an interesting discussion between us, though we're not quite ready to plant roots just yet. Still, it is fun to chat with fellow travelers who spend at least part of the year doing some kind of camp host job. Who knows? Maybe that's in our future down the road.
