Huckleberries Online

For Those Keeping Score at Home …

... The White House tried repeatedly to reach Justice Sandra O'Connor yesterday while she was flyfishing up the St. Joe River with SR Outdoor Editor Rich Landers -- to tell her about Bush's Supreme Court nominee. But they were out of cell phone reach. So, the justice enjoyed her day wading in the river here (and, BTW, wasn't that front-page headline terrific: "O'Connor picks wade over row"). She didn't learn about Dubya's pick of John G. Roberts until the ride back in Rich's rig when Rich fielded a cell phone call re: the matter and handed the phone to her. BTW, O'Conner gives thumbs up to the Roberts' pick here.

Feedback: I love that story - just perfect. Good for her that she put her fishing time ahead of work time - she's earned the right. And the St. Joe is as good a place to lay low as there is -- Mike Kennedy.
