... I just asked Editor Steve Smith (pictured right) what he'd do if a newsroom employee did the same thing to him that Linda Payne did to the commissioners. (I'm on a conference call with Smith and the rest of the Editorial Board as we speak.) Smith said he'd call the journalist into his office for "a chat" about inappropriate behavior. But he wouldn't fire him/her. Payne's behavior, he said, was "appalling" but he gave her points for her gutsy stand. Bottom line? Smith: "You get to do that once to me."
