Question of the Day — 6/24/05

Issue: Idaho governor to seek input on forest use: New rules allow states to develop roadless federal land/Christopher Smith, SR.

DFO: I'm a fan of a multiple-use approach for our national forests. It's past time that the state and feds prepare a plan for the 9.3 million acres of roadless areas in Idaho. Care, of course, must be given to ensure that the governor doesn't allow the whole thing to be clear cut.

Question: What do you think should be done with Idaho's roadless areas?

Feedback: I took a very informative class in environmental ecology from Bob Murray at NIC. It was a needed lab course. In that course I will never forget what Bob brought out. They three stages man goes through when he moves into an ecosystem. 1. Use and abuse. 2. Lock it up. 3. Manage. We were at the end of the use and abuse stage in the Northwest at that time. He also stated that for some reason, even though we know it is inevitable, we can’t go from Use and Abuse to Management -- Jack.
