Be careful with your athletic child
Traci Watson, general editor of the NIC Sentinel, columnizes in the current edition that she was happy when she learned her brother wasn't putting his daughter in sports. This, although Traci has played sports since age 6 and traveled to Europe to play soccer. Quoth Traci:
"My experience in sports wasn't the greatest; in fact I remain bitter about the whole experience. I'm not saying that everyone's experiences will be like mine, but I've learned some valuable lessons along the way. I've learned that even in sports there is an incredible amount of politics involved."
Back to me: One of my happiest days was when my daughter decided not to go out for CHS volleyball her sophomore year. She'd played a lot her freshman year. But she preferred drama to volleyball. I was sooooo tired of the high school sports politics after watching my son for three years in baseball and football and my daughter for her frosh year. I love sports. But the politics at the high school and club level deflates enjoyment. Am I wrong?
