Huckleberries Online

Peanut Gallery (Floatin’ down the river)

Dave;

I wanted to comment on the S-R editorial from Friday (I think it was yours; ed. note: bingo) re: water rights settlement here, but ran out of time. Better late than never:

On Thursday afternoon, I spent an hour at Blue Water Technologies in CDA in preparation for our next Forum "How Waste Water Treatment & Water Quality In Kootenai County Impact Your Business". (The forum will take on the same feel as the last one, with Freeman Duncan moderating.) Anyway, I was fascinated with what I learned. When I read the comment from Friday - Belatedly, North Idahoans have developed a deeper appreciation for their water - it drove home the point, again, how big of an issue this really is. If I learned nothing else all day, I came away with this (and I am rephrasing a bit here, I imagine): Did you know antibiotics/steroids/cold medicines/etc. leave the human body at 90% potency and there is no filtering process through waste water treatment? So all of this is being discharged into the river? I have no idea what amount, but that stuck with me!

DFO: Remind me to swim upstream from the sewage plant. Yeah, yeah, I know we're suppose to call them wastewater treatment plants. Sorry, Sid.
