Huckleberries Online

SR Morning Headlines — 11/3/05

*Kiss-off doesn't hinder Payne: With Vaseline behind her, public defender rehired by county/Marc Stewart, Coeur d'Alene Press -- This is better than a soap opera.

*Afghan ambush kills area soldier: Injured sergeant was able to warn squad mates of danger/Kevin Graman, Spokesman-Review -- Another local hero falls.

*Kennedy wins fund-raising race in CdA: Council candidate reports collecting $20,781 as office-seekers file financial statements/Erica Curless, Spokesman-Review -- I've received three direct mailings from Mike Kennedy's campaign. Impressive campaign. Then, he has the money and moxie to pull it off. How's the news of his war chest playing? (Remember: I've been gone, so I don't have a good feel for this aspect as the campaign winds down.)

*Birthday girl takes flight of fancy for 98th: Hagadone provides helicopter for woman who loves to travel/Christi Wilhelm, Coeur d'Alene Press -- Let's give the devil his due. Nice story. Nice gesture by Duane Hagadone to give 98-year-old Betty Owens a birthday gift like this.

*Kellogg voters pass levy to heat schools by wood waste, biomass/Associated Press -- Good for Kellogg.
