Best of the Local Blogs — 2/2/06

Steve Remington/Black Bear Blog isn't a "local blogger" per se, what with him being from Maine and all. But he's definitely one of the "Friends of Huckleberries" (and the nation's best outdoor blogger for 1995). Above, Steve introduces us to a rare albino whitetail that a friend of his spotted on the road and tells you about it here.

Put your hands together for Luke Bakken (LukeB), who had a letter published in this week's Inlander, here. (BTW, HBO isn't outing LukeB here because he posted a comment under the Wild Card that drew people's attention to his letter. Congrats, Luke.)

*"I'm tired of seeing my sons wearing psychic body armor. I'm tired of a world where girls and boys grow up without moms. I'm tired of always being the one in the urgent care room. I'm tired of rushing to grocery stores during my lunch breaks. I'm tired of thinking about rewinding time. I'm tired of being alone. I'm just ... tired" -- ending of Bearable Bob comment, "The Addition of Small Things" here.

*Family Phil is dealing with coughs, tantrums and sleep deprivation as his kids fight through days on end of coughts and sniffles here.

*Herb Huseland/Bay Views e-mailed me re: his post today about the "Vagina Monologues" -- and double dog dared me to post it. Now, I'm sorta like Ralphie & his friends in "A Christmas Story" when it comes to double dares. Click here. (BTW, you've been warned.)

*Stebbijo/Your Choice got some ideas from Toni/Idaho Nature Trail for some fun mischief to create next time you're at Wal*Mart here. Also, Stebbijo has begun featuring a "Blog of the Week" -- and Cis Gors/From A Simple Mind is in the batter's box today here.

*Mari Meehan/Dogwalk Musings has some thoughts about author James Frey's fall from grace here.

Also: Marianne pens an ode to typing teachers here, KaleJ roots for the Pittsburgh Steelers (this is no misprint) here, and CDADave reacts (appropriately) to the news that another spotlight might blossom on Highway 95 here.
