Thom George: “ErinG, leaving the world of income-earning, outside-of-the-home-work to stay home and raise my children was the BEST thing I have ever done in my life, I know it, they know it and my wife knows it. Adjusting to living on 1/2 the income wasn’t that hard for us and after a short while the income rose to cover what I’d relinquished.”
DFO: Bingo. I don’t want to lay any guilt trips of families who need two incomes in our tourism industry economy to get by. But my wife and I decided from the get go that the kids were No. 1 priority and that their mother, in my case, wouldn’t work outside the home through college. We sacrificed a few things, including newer model cars to embrace that lifestyle and continued on when their grades earned them great but not full-ride scholarships to private colleges. I have no regrets, although I’m looking forward to the day when all the college loans are paid and I can buy a slightly used Hummer.
