And Darren McGavin Makes 3, R.I.P.

Darren McGavin, top, in a scene from the television series “Riverboat” in this June 25, 1959 file photo. McGavin, 83, the husky, tough-talking actor who starred in the TV series “Mike Hammer,” played a grouchy dad in the holiday classic “A Christmas Story” and had other strong roles in films and TV here.

Factoids: McGavin was born in Spokane in 1922, and the role I enjoyed him playing most was “Kolchak: The Night Stalker.”

Question: Can any gimlet-eyed HBOer name the second actor in the photo above?

Feedback: “I’m rethinking my earlier guess - is that a young, pre-mustache Burt Reynolds?” — The Heimlich Maneuver. (DFO: Bingo)
