Quick Fix 6 — 1/18/06

1. APhoto Fix: Hostage American reporter Jill Carroll appears in a silent 20-second video aired Tuesday by Al-Jazeera television, which said her abductors gave the United States 72 hours to free female prisoners in Iraq or she would be killed. Al-Jazeera would not tell The Associated Press how it received the tape, but the station issued its own statement calling for Carroll's release.

2. Cartoon Fix: J.D. Crowe (Nagin & Robertson), Jerry Holbert (King Kennedy & Alito), and Mike Lester (Blaming everyone else).

3. Humor Fix: Jay D. Dyson brings you Mayor Nagin's "Mouthful" here.

4. My Way Fix: This Day In History here, Today's Birthdays here, Positive Quote here, and Word of the Day here.

5. Top of the News Fix: Supreme Court affirms NH abortion law here, Mine blast survivor breathing on his own here, Republicans vow to curb lobbyists here, Kennedy quits all-male Harvard club amid criticism here, and Tom Daschle mulls White House run here.

6. Opinion Fix: Max Boot/LA Times (Wiretaps shouldn't bug us), Kathryn Jean Lopez/National Review (Mining the media), Dick Morris/The Hill (Scandals are bleeding GOP), John Derbyshire/National Review (Why suicide?), and Tunku Varadarajan/Wall Street Journal (Uncle Sam-I-Am).
