First, you should know that one of the definitions for “wench” is “a girl or young woman — now a derogatory or jocular term.” And that a “winch” is a machine for for hoisting, lowering or hauling. Now, onward. A colleague pointed out this blooper in that top-of-the-front-page CDA Press cutline about Coeur d’Alene’s XPO Sessions activities on Fourth Street Saturday: “Wakeboarders were pulled more than 150 feet by a tow rope attached to a gas-powered wench.” Good thing no one lit a match.
