Mailbag — Post Falls Made Right Ironman Call

Former Mike: Sorry, think you’re all wet on this one - Post Falls is recovering appropriate fees from a commercial entity to cover its expenses. With all the worries about higher property taxes, isn't this what we want our taxing entities to do - be responsible with our tax dollars? All the talk about Ironman leaving over this issue is just that - talk. The organizers make a fortune on the event itself and than add a little extra cushion out of the pockets of Cd'A taxpayers - I'll take a deal like that! And idawa, don’t think there is any way that the good citizens of Post Falls would vote to pay for Ironman out of their tax dollars.

DFO: Former Mike is responding to the editorial I wrote before going on vacation. It stated, basically, that Post Falls should suck it up and pay the 10 or 15G's that it costs to provide services to Ironman, as a goodwill gesture, if nothing else. After all, what goes around comes around. This is a ha-huge countywide event that benefits most of the local communities. Besides, someday Post Falls may need a reciprocal favor from Coeur d'Alene.
