Peanut Gallery: They Woulda Lost Anyway

Spen-sah: Gus and Katie would have lost even if they had voted against the raise. Their refusal to follow the laws or even the county codes found them on the wrong side of the voters. They would not listen to the people, and even some developers who told them that growth should pay it's own way, rather than being a burden on the existing community.

DFO: I think it's more complicated than that, Larry. First, voters were a throw-da-bums out mood. Secondly, the commissioners hadn't held the budget in check, and they made the terrible mistake of giving themselves big raises at a time of tax rebellion. Finally, Gus's temper and Katie's unwillingness to put distance between herself and developers, including her short-sighted refusal to give up her IFI management job came into play. However, they did right by county taxpayers this year by deciding not to raise taxes at all.
