Landers: Big Elk Story A Bunch of Bull

News travels fast by the Internet and e-mail. So do rumors and lies. The latest hunting-related fib to come across my computer screen is a photo of two hunters with a monster elk accompanied by this message: "This Elk was killed with a bow in the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness. He green scored 575. … He has an unbelievable outside spread of 79 inches. This is the biggest bull ever taken with any weapon." The reference to the Selway is the first clue that at least some of the information is bogus. For the rest of the story by Rich Landers/SR, click here.

DFO: I've gotten suckered a coupla times re: bogus photos or stories on the Internet. Not in awhile, however. If something seems too far out there, you should check it out at Snopes.com here. You should also be careful what you forward to friends and relatives. No one likes to be thought of as a sucker. And it's easy to fool some of the people all of the time.
