Q: Did CPD Blue Handle Serial Rape Case Right?

Coeur d'Alene police spokeswoman Sgt. Christie Wood said she would be shocked if anyone involved in the investigation of the serial rapist actually asked neighbors in his stalking ground a question as unprofessional as, "Have you seen anyone who looks like a rapist?" The local businesswoman in the main story, "One Who Got Away," said law enforcement representations were asking just that, although three years later she couldn't remember if it came from uniformed police, detectives, or plain-clothes volunteers. All she can remember is the question and the neighbors' responses: "What does a rapist look like?" "The lead detective on that case is now retired," Wood told The Press, "but I'd be disappointed and surprised, and I do mean surprised (if the question was put that way). I believe our detectives are very professional. For the rest of the Coeur d'Alene Press story, "Police: Everything was done to find rapist," click here.

Question: Are you satisfied with the way the Coeur d'Alene police handled the serial rape investigation that led to the arrest of Paul Earl Hawkins, 33, of Spirit Lake?
